I’ve recently noticed articles in the Iowa State Daily about the Greek community and how it’s supposed to represent the best aspects of the student population. That it might do but from my many interactions and conversations it seems like people in that community are a bit pretentious. What exactly is a midseason break? I recently found out that as of last Friday Psych is on a midseason break. It has a 16 episode season, what do you need a break for?! I find midseason breaks really irritating because seasons aren’t that long anyway, especially for a lot of shows which for some reason have 18 or less episode seasons. Isn’t that what the 8 months of the year the show isn’t on TV for? If shows want midseason breaks, they better start coming up with longer seasons and better episodes…

Today I was on YouTube wasting time before work and I came across a video by ArtInSound. He does amazing sax covers of songs I like and I was thrilled. They sound really awesome and he’s really good. You can check out his website here.

It takes a lot of skill, patience, and practice to be able to play an instrument, listen to songs and cover them on an instrument that probably wasn’t in the original.

And yes, I’m jealous because I can’t play an instrument.

Wow. I dunno what it is that makes people unable to accept the fact that Thomas is in fact my last name and not my first name. For years, one of my friends just KNEW Thomas was my first name and I finally had to whip out my ID and prove it.

But here’s my real beef. If you’re a casino guard, bank teller, card issuer, DMV/DoT employee, or cashier that’s been at it for years, HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT LAST NAMES COME FIRST ON IOWA LICENSES? Seriously wtf! You’ve got a license from the same state as me. And it’s your job to know, so why the hell you gotta keep asking me if Thomas is my last name? You saw my license didn’t you? I could understand (somewhat) when I had my Mississippi license (even tho my last name comes first on it as well). “But Thomas is usually a first name.” And? What’s your point? It’s still my last name and your idiocy &  disbelief won’t change that so WTF you telling me for? I don’t give a crap. “Are you sure?” Are you flipping kidding me? I’m not even going to dignify that remark with verbal communication. The sad and somewhat funny part to that is I’ve asked the person if their last name comes first on their license just like mine does (and of course it does) and they took the time to say yah I think so and then get out their ID to confirm it. 1 *face palm* for me and 1 *super hard bitch slap* for you.

Today I was opening my accounts at a local bank and I ran into this issue. It wasn’t the banker’s fault though. For some reason someone who reviewed my application online went all dyslexic on my name and put my last name as Bakari. Needless to say I was irritated that because of it I had to fill out and sign a Legal Name Change Request form. And after furnishing two forms of photo ID I was still asked if Thomas was my last name. :/

So here’s my point- if it’s your job to check IDs and collect information from them, know what you’re doing. It’s irritating, takes extra time outta my day, and is exceedingly difficult for me to inform you that my last name is indeed Thomas without making you feel like a complete dumbass because it’s your job to know, you have an ID fielded just like mine from the same state, and you’ve been doing this for quite some time. Seriously- if you can’t complete a simple task like copying my name properly from my ID, FIND A NEW JOB!

Finally fixed the problem (that I’m not sure what) that was keeping me from logging into the dashboard for BtDubZ. I will be posting (and backdating) a few articles in the days to come.

Also, Ce’Val is gone.

Yesterday while at a mean friend’s house, I found out my blog doesn’t display properly using Safari or Chrome. I don’t care about the prior since it’s Mac software but I guess I should fix it anyway. I have no idea where the break occurred but I have a pretty good idea as to where to start looking for the problem. I probably won’t have it fixed til the end of the week at the soonest cause I suck with CSS. Probably obvious since Firefox displays my page how it should look.
Also, I know why Ce’Val’s no longer showing up. Ran outta streams. He’s not functioning properly so I’m not going to purchase a license for more streams. Although if I upgraded from Basic I could customize my avatar more… Nah I’ll just leave it and replace him.

Earlier today someone I follow on twitter (USA Network) posted a retweet which caused me to follow someone else. I ended up tweeting about the topic (who you’d burn) and it got retweeted by Burn Notice on twitter. I chose to burn Stephenie Meyer for Twilight (have you seen that movie? It’s horrible, don’t get me started…), Christian Bale and Tom Cruise for their less than positive behavior that seems to surface all to often making them seem like douches on Kanye’s level (the video’s after the jump), and Sarah Palin for getting far far too close to the White House. Apparently the person who run’s Burn Notice on twitter liked my choice and retweeted it, sans the Christian Bale and Tom Cruise remarks. Which just goes to show, other people think Twilight sucked as well. Someone tweeted back in response to it. (continue reading…)

At work yesterday, I encountered someone who worked at the APL (Ames Public Library) and our conversation ended up talking on the topic of the geek the library campaign that Bill Gates and wife donated to. It’s piloting in other places including Iowa so I figured I’d make a few igeek images. Here is the first. I’m doing an Ellen DeGeneres and using the same photo for everything, haha.

Today’s a day many Iowans have strong feelings about and wait all year for. It’s their biggest football game of the year and it’s the biggest rivalry match also- Iowa State vs. Iowa (it’s usually published Iowa Vs. Iowa State but fuck that, Iowa State comes first bitches!) There’s crap talking from both sides and everybody’s all up in arms about it. Everyone’s all dressed up saying “Yah Iowa’s going down!” or “Beat State” (the latter’s usually if they’re mentally defunct). Even the respective universities get into it. Iowa State has Beat Iowa Week and the delusional Iowa copycats have a Beat ISU week. (continue reading…)
