How should I feel?

by Bakari on Feb 26, 2010, under Life Experiences, Random

I’m not even sure how I should feel about this. At current I’m not emotive about it but I know that if I keep thinking about it, I’ll develop some sort of emotion about it.

The rundown:

One of my best friends recently (in January) had an altercation with his roommate that made him want to move out. He told me about and we talked about it. I suggested that we could go apartment hunting and move in together since technically I have no place of my own. The idea was tabled. We never talked about it again because I wasn’t getting the vibe that he was moving out anymore. Yesterday I come to find out (from twitter and eventually over lunch) that he and one of his friends have gotten an apartment together. Apparently it’d been in the works for about a week.

Starting a New Job

by Bakari on Feb 26, 2010, under Food, Life Experiences, Work

I started a new job Monday as a banquet server/chef. I’ve been a ‘banquet server’ for going on 3 years now and I’ve been for more than half my life. Today, a customer that’s been by daily for the past 8 weeks noticed the new chef in the kitchen- me. He was curious about me so he asked where I was from and what my specialty was. I replied that I’m from Natchez and my specialty is Cajun food because that’s what I’m used to eating and cooking. Seeing as we’re in Iowa the patron was pleasantly surprised and thrilled at the prospect of having flavorful food. “What can you do with a chicken breast?” he asked. “Anything you want,” was my reply so the patron asked me to make him something Cajun but not too spicy. And I did.

I decided on honey glazed lemon pepper blackened chicken. I was just going to Cajun season the chicken breast but I decided to add honey and a little lemon zest to take away from the spiciness. It turned out well. The man was happy. So I was happy. It’s been a while since I worked in a restaurant and cooked something that I devised and a patron has commented that they liked it. It’s always nice to be appreciated for your skills. Needless to say, it made my night.

Respect

by Bakari on Feb 22, 2010, under Life Experiences, Rant

I’m not huge on demanding that people respect me. I personally don’t give a crap if you do or not. But I have my limits. You aren’t just going to say any and everything to me and expect it to be cool. If we’re working together then I demand respect. If I’ve got the knowledge, skills, and experience and I show you a better and easier way to do something or if I’m responsible for you doing something, you better believe I EXPECT you to do it the way I asked without giving me shit. That said, in my personal life, I don’t demand respect. For us to be friends, you have to treat me respectfully or we just won’t interact. (« click here to continue reading »)

Where’s my life going?

by Bakari on Feb 10, 2010, under Random

I have a lot of friends. Most of them know what the want to do and are well on their way to getting there. Me on the other hand, not so much. I used to know what I wanted to do but in pursing it for a while I realized I really don’t want to do that. I’m kind of just wandering through life at the moment with no clear goal in mind. Sometimes I feel bad about it because of how others might perceive me but ultimately I really don’t give a fuck care what they think that much. (« click here to continue reading »)

Have You Ever… had unrequited like/love?

by Bakari on Jan 08, 2010, under Have You Ever...

Have you ever liked someone, let them know, an they blew you off only to start contacting you a lot later? How’d you handle it? Recently that happened to me.

There was someone I liked that I met a little over a year ago. Was kinda working at it and they liked me but it wasn’t going anywhere so eventually I said screw it. We aren’t really friends because we never hung out, we just talked, and after a few months of just talking and not going anywhere I started talking to them less and kinda let it go. Have You Ever… thought of apologizing too late?

by Bakari on Jan 05, 2010, under Have You Ever...

Have you ever genuinely felt sorry or remorseful for something you’ve done and wanted to apologize to the person but realized that it might be too late and they might not appreciate or believe your sincerity?

Today I was thinking about that. There’s somebody I’ve known since the 3rd grade but senior year in high school we kinda got into it. We aren’t not friends because of it but I realized that it was pretty petty and I want to apologize. But I’m not because I don’t think they’d appreciate my sincerity and I don’t do empty gestures.

Reflexión Profunda: Selflessness & self deprecation

by Bakari on Jan 05, 2010, under Reflexión Profunda

A few days ago, I broke into someone’s house. It was a heat-of-the-moment, self deprecating act and I’m still mentally debating the consequences. I hate to burst your bubble dad but it’s not what you first thought and you’re wrong. (« click here to continue reading »)

BtDubZ is back and anew in 2010!

by Bakari on Jan 05, 2010, under About, BtDubZ Design, Have You Ever..., Reflexión Profunda

No Gravatar

I’ve finally decided to update the blog and post some stuff. In addition to finally restoring BtDubZ’s graphics back to original from the October Especial, I’ve added some new sections: “Reflexión Profunda:” & “Have You Ever…” <topic>. The “Reflexión profunda:” feature is for deep reflection about things (most likely character related) that can be described in one or two words. “Have You Ever…” will feature posts about things that I’ve done that might have been embarrassing or thought provoking- such as: Have You Ever… been singing outta tune or talking out loud to yourself while you’re walking somewhere only to find out you weren’t as alone as you thought because a stranger was around the corner who could hear you?
